How to make diagrams in ChatGPT
Ask ChatGPT (OpenAI’s ChatGPT) for a diagram in plain words and it draws one. On its own, the result stays in the chat or in a file only you can open. Connect Diagram once, and every diagram ChatGPT makes is saved at a link you can share, which stays current as the diagram changes. It takes three steps.
1. Connect Diagram to ChatGPT
On chatgpt.com: Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode. Then go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click +, name it Diagram, paste this as the server URL, choose OAuth, and create it:
https://diagram.la/mcp
Sign in once: ChatGPT then sends you to sign in to Diagram and click Allow.
Web only (chatgpt.com). Publishing needs a plan whose developer mode allows write tools: Business, Enterprise, or Edu for sure; OpenAI’s docs disagree on Plus and Pro. On Business and Enterprise, an admin has to allow developer mode.
2. Ask ChatGPT for a diagram
In a new chat, pick Developer mode from the + menu and select Diagram (ChatGPT asks you to confirm each publish), then describe what you want in plain words. For example:
- “Turn these meeting notes into a flowchart of who does what, and give me a link.”
- “Draw our sales funnel from these numbers: 480k views, 32k visits, 4,100 signups, 610 buyers.”
- “Make a timeline of this project plan with a bar for each phase.”
- “Draw a family tree from this list of names and who is whose parent.”
ChatGPT draws it, saves it to Diagram as a draft only you can see, and gives you a link. Keep the link open: when you ask for a change, the page updates by itself.
3. Publish it and share the link
When it looks right, tell ChatGPT to publish it. It asks first and says who will be able to see it: the people on its project. Then paste the link in Slack, a pull request, or a doc. To change it later, ask ChatGPT: the link stays the same and every version is kept.
